Lately, I’ve been in kind of a reading funk. I own lots (and lots) of books, but I can’t seem to generate any interest in them. Over the weekend, I sought out the largest (and best-stocked) of my local public libraries (there are four libraries systems within driving distance and I have cards for them all). My intention was to stock up on an obscene number of books without spending a penny. The theory was that I’d get so many books at least one was bound to capture my interest.
Here’s what I came home with:I usually get high being in presence of so many books but this time, as I leisurely walked the aisles, the feeling I experienced was remarkable different. It was:
No, I did not see Beyonce at the library (first: I bet she doesn’t get whatever books she reads herself and second, she probably buys what she does read). What did happen was that I experienced a sense of deja vu. And, yes, of course, I’d been the library before blah blah blah sensible sense-cakes, but that’s not the point. The point is that I didn’t check out any of the books at my library because–get this:
I HAVE A LOT OF THEM AT HOME
My browsing went like this:
Me: Arclight! Didn’t you get a copy of that for review?
Me: There’s a copy of Pivot Point! Remember how much you liked The Distance Between Us? Maybe you should read that one. I wonder where your copy is?
Me: Remember how you won a copy of The Program? I forgot how much you wanted to read that one.
It was bookshelf deja vu! I have this wealth of books at my house and still I feel like I have nothing to read. I have stack upon stack of unread books, a goldmine of novels whose spines I have yet to so much as crack. Why don’t I read them? Am I one of those shallow people who ceases wanting a thing as soon as it’s in my hands? I’m seriously afraid I am.
And don’t even get me started on my Kindle.
So, I decided to put the whole thing in your hands. The fate of these books is up to you! I’m going to list a smattering of the books on my TBR shelf you–you’re going to tell me why I should read them. Or why I shouldn’t. Inform me–enlighten me–help me!
Why should I read (or why shouldn’t I read):
- Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter
- Soul Screamers volumes 1 & 2 by Rachel Vincent
- Wrecked by Anna Davies
- The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
- Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews
Go on–what am I missing?
