Ruby’s Bookish Bundles is a new feature I’m starting here on the blog. In it, I’m going to post about three books:
- Want Now: One recently released or already published title I’m lusting after.
- Want Soon: One upcoming title I’m looking forward to, based on things I’ve heard, the cover, and the description.
- Want Someday: One upcoming title I’ve heard about that sounds like it could be interested but is so far off into the future it doesn’t even have a cover yet.
I love discovering new books, and I love sharing about the books I discover. However, I’ve been wanting to do something a little different from (and more involved than) a WoW post, so I created this new feature for myself. Anyone is welcome to participate, or to share their own wants. If you do so on your own blog, leave a link so I can visit!
I love pink. After red, it’s the most eye-catching book cover color there is for me. I knew, in this week’s Bundle, that I wanted to feature The Chocolate Kiss. I toyed with a few ways to tie the Bundle together–Paris? Chocolate? Both good things, but to be honest, pink covers seemed like the most fun. Paris and chocolate will come up again–that I can promise.
Want Now:
I read about The Chocolate Kiss when Alex from A Girl, Books and Other Things reviewed it on her blog. It sounds a bit like You’ve Got Mail (which I’ve only seen a thousand times), but set in Paris and with chocolate. If you’re not already interested, you’re not human. Or possibly, just not female.
The Heart of ParisWelcome to La Maison des Sorcieres. Where the window display is an enchanted forest of sweets, a collection of conical hats delights the eye and the habitues nibble chocolate witches from fanciful mismatched china. While in their tiny blue kitchen, Magalie Chaudron and her two aunts stir wishes into bubbling pots of heavenly chocolat chaud. But no amount of wishing will rid them of interloper Philippe Lyonnais, who has the gall to open one of his world famous pastry shops right down the street. Philippe’s creations seem to hold a magic of their own, drawing crowds of beautiful women to their little isle amidst the Seine, and tempting even Magalie to venture out of her ivory tower and take a chance, a taste…a kiss.Parisian princesses, chocolate witches, patissier princes and sweet wishes—an enchanting tale of amour et chocolat.

Want Soon:
I loved Slide because, while it had a paranormal element, the focus of the book was more the mystery. I was fine with Slide being a stand-alone, but I also don’t mind seeing more from this author or the genre. Teen sleuths FTW!
What if a killer took control of you?Vee Bell’s gift (or curse) of “sliding”—slipping into the mind of another person and experiencing life, briefly, through his or her eyes—has been somewhat under control since she unwillingly witnessed the horrific deaths of her classmates six months ago.But just as things are getting back to normal, Vee has a very bizarre experience: she loses consciousness and finds herself in a deserted area, at the edge of a cliff, with the broken body of the boy who took advantage of her on the rocks below. As Vee finds herself in stranger and stranger situations with no memory of getting there, she begins to suspect that someone she knows has the ability to slide—and that this “slider” is using Vee to exact revenge on his or her enemies.

Want Someday:
Historical fantasy! Song magic! Sign me up!
Lucy’s Chantress magic will make her the most powerful—and most hunted—girl in England.
“Sing, and the darkness will find you.” This warning has haunted fifteen-year-old Lucy ever since she was eight and shipwrecked on a lonely island. Lucy’s guardian, Norrie, has lots of rules, but the most important is that Lucy must never sing. Not ever. Now it is 1667, Lucy is fifteen, and on All Hallows’ Eve, Lucy hears a tantalizing melody on the wind. She can’t help but sing—and she is swept into darkness.
When she awakes in England, Lucy hears powerful men discussing Chantresses—women who can sing magic into the world. They are hunting her, but she escapes and finds sanctuary with the Invisible College, an organization plotting to overthrow the nefarious Lord Protector. The only person powerful enough to bring about his downfall is a Chantress. And Lucy is the last one in England.
Lucy struggles to master the song-spells and harness her power, but the Lord Protector is moving quickly. And her feelings for Nat, an Invisible College apprentice and scientist who deeply distrusts her magic, only add to her confusion…
Time is running out, and the fate of England hangs in the balance in this entrancing novel that is atmospheric and lyrical, dangerous and romantic.

As always, feel free to recommend any titles you’ve come across, are waiting on, or have just plain piqued your interest. That goes double for twin books (heh–get it?)!

Ooh, pretty in pink! That last one sounds right up my alley, too.
The description is a little confusing, though. Is this a time travel book? What does it mean, “When she wakes up in England.” Those questions alone make the book intriguing.
Great picks, I have the chocolate kiss cannot wait to read that myself <3 But I must acquire book 1 first!
Oh! I didn’t know it was a series!
Chantress sounds pretty original – the idea of singing magic into the world !! – but also a bit out there.
Made me think of The False Princess actually, don’t know why, just giving me a similar vibe.
I read another series about song magic, but it wasn’t awesome. I wish I could remember what it was called, but it was a while ago. I haven’t read the False Princess, though.
Oh, well in the False Princess there is no singing but there is magic, it’s a pretty good book actually!!
If you like fantasy you’ll probably enjoy it.
